Arsenal will be taking on Ostersund in the knockout stages of the Europa League. All eyes will be on Arsène Wenger’s starting line-up for the first leg of the tie, as it’s believed he will be giving some youngsters an opportunity. Although Mesut Özil, Hector Bellerín, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all featured in full training this week, Arsène Wenger is still expected to field a weakened line-up.
The Frenchman usually uses the cup competitions to rest the more senior players. However, with the Gunners now out of the FA Cup & top-4 race, the Europa League is Arsenal’s best chance at securing Champions League qualification& silverware this season. So, will the boss give youngsters first-team opportunities?
Ahead of the tie, four of Arsenal’s youngsters trained with the first team. Those lucky youngsters were Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah and Konstantinos Marvopanos.
Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock have featured regularly in the cup competitions this season, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them feature again. Nketiah has also featured minutely in the Carabao Cup but Marvopanos hasn’t made his mark yet.
Regardless of who starts, it’s guaranteed that Arsène Wenger will field the best team available for the job.
