Arsenal Agree £55.4m Deal To Sign Aubameyang, Could Wear Number 14 Shirt

Everyone stay calm, but it looks like the unfathomable is happening… According to several reputable outlets, Arsenal  the verge of completing the signing of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. Reports state that the club have agreed on personal terms with the star striker and now a transfer fee is near completion too.

Leading German media publication Kicker broke the news last night that Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on a fee in the region of £55.4million to £60million. Jeremy Wilson is also reporting the deal is agreed and he is very reliable. Other outlets in the UK are also confirming the same fee. However, BBC’s David Ornstein believes that the deal will only go through depending on whether the German team get a replacement forward in.

It is unclear at the moment whether that replacement will be Olivier Giroud or not. The French striker is reportedly unhappy with the lack of game time he’s received at the Emirates, especially with the World Cup in mind.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, also known as Batman by his adoring fans in Germany, has made it abundantly clear that he wants to leave the Westfalenstadion this window. The winter window will close on Wednesday night and it looks like the Gunners will be able to complete the deal in time.

So far, this season, the star striker has scored 21 goals in 24 games, a strike rate that puts him amongst Europe’s elites. However, this season, the Gabonese international’s disciplinary record has overshadowed his scoring rate. The 28-year-old has been suspended multiple times for his behaviour, with many citing him as a source of discontent at the German club.

Over the weekend, Dortmund manager Peter Stoger started the 28-year-old on the weekend against Freiburg. A game in which Dortmund had to score a last-minute goal to salvage a 2-2 draw. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang was booed by the home fans, in a match that he didn’t score one goal in. This may have been the last time he’ll be seen in a yellow and black shirt, what a sorry way to end a sparkling tenure.

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal have offered the Gabonese icon a lucrative contract, worth around £180,000-a-week, equating to £32.5million over the next three and a half years. This would make the 28-year-old the highest paid at the club, eclipsing the likes of Mesut Özil and Alexandre Lacazette.

As the transfer comes to a conclusion, the nitty gritty of the formalities will be soon concluded. As fellow former-BVB man Henrikh Mkhitaryan has taken Alexis Sanchez’s number of #7, now Aubameyang will most likely be given the famous #14 shirt that’s been worn by Arsenal legends. Hopefully, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang will continue that famous illustrious legacy.
