After successfully helping Arsenal sign Aubameyang from Dortmund, many, including myself are of the believe that Arsenal’s new head of Recruitment, and former Dortmund head scout Sven Mislintat, could make a move for Christian Pulisic this summer. Mislintat is a big fan of Pulisic, having brought him to Dortmund 18 months ago, and won’t be a surprise if he is already whispering in the club’s ear about signing him this summer.
The £40.5m rated American winger is only 19 years old, but already boasts 20 international caps and 80 appearances for Dortmund. This has caught the eyes of scouts and managers worldwide, with his dazzling displays of pace and trickery getting fans off their seats week in week out.
Adding Pulisic would be the cherry on top of a fantastic attacking overhaul for Arsenal, with Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan already at the club. Christian Pulisic would be a top class addition for Arsenal and one that would drastically improve the strength of the squad, with an alternative option to strikers and creative players.
With injuries and hectic schedules, Arsenal need depth. For too long, the focus has been on the starting eleven, and the depth has been weak. One injury can derail Arsenal’s season, and adding a talent like Pulisic, who is still learning, would give Arsenal a mix of options, and ensure they weren’t relying on one set of players for each game.
The right side of midfield has also been a weakness for Arsenal in recent years, and without Theo Walcott, the balance must be rectified. Pulisic would do just that. And his pace, combined with that of Hector Bellerin would make Arsenal a deadly force going forward, as well as defensively, due to the American’s ability to track back and cover for his fullback.
Over the last 18 months, Pulisic and Aubameyang have built a great understanding for Dortmund. This is something Arsenal must look to, given how quickly Auba and Mkhi have settled together, and the addition of a third Dortmund star could really excite the Emirates’ crowd.
Pulisic also seems to have maintained a relationship with Auba, with the pair seen together at a Nike event this week. He did also admit to being a lifelong Manchester United fan, but so was Aaron Ramsey, and he turned them down to join Arsenal. While professional footballers want to play for a club they love, they will ultimately do what is best for their career, and if Pulisic thinks that is moving to Arsenal – that is what he will do. Sign him up, Sven!
